At just 27 years old, he made a choice that shocked everyone around him…

“Why are you throwing your life away?” his friends asked.
“You deserve to live your own life, not spend it taking care of an old woman,” people whispered.
“Put her in a nursing home. That’s where she belongs,” even some relatives told him.

But every time he looked into the tired eyes of his 96-year-old grandmother, he remembered everything she had once done for him.

She had raised him after tragedy destroyed their family.
She stayed awake beside his bed during endless nights when he was sick.
She wore old clothes so he could have new ones for school.
She sacrificed pieces of her own life so he could have a future.

And now, when she could barely walk without help, he refused to abandon her.

So he left behind his apartment, his comfort, and the life he had built in the city.
He moved into her small, aging house where the floors creaked, the winters were freezing, and loneliness filled every corner.

From that day forward, his world became completely different.

Every morning he gently woke her up.

“Grandma… it’s time for your medicine.”

Sometimes she smiled when she saw him.
Sometimes she looked confused.

And some mornings she quietly whispered:
“Excuse me… who are you?”

Those words cut deeper than anything else.

But he never let her see his pain.
He simply held her hand and answered softly:

“It’s me… your grandson.”

Tears would instantly fill her eyes.
As if somewhere deep inside, her heart still remembered him even when her memory could not.

Nobody saw the nights he spent awake beside her bed.
Nobody saw him silently crying in the kitchen from exhaustion.
Nobody saw how he slowly lost touch with friends, work, and the outside world.

Then one night, everything nearly changed forever.

He heard a loud crash coming from her room.

When he ran inside, he found her lying on the cold floor, trembling.
She had tried to walk to the kitchen alone and had fallen.

Blood ran from her lip.
Her fragile hands shook uncontrollably.

But what shattered him most was what she said next:

“I’m sorry… I didn’t want to bother you…”

He dropped to his knees beside her and broke down in tears.

“Please… don’t apologize…”

At the hospital, the doctors warned him:
“At her age, even one fall can become the last.”

Those words stayed in his mind every single day after that.

He became even more careful.
He learned how to cook meals she could swallow easily.
How to lift her without hurting her.
How to stay strong even when he felt completely broken inside.

Then one quiet morning, something happened that left even the nurses emotional.

His grandmother asked him to come closer.

She stared at him for a long moment before whispering:

“I prayed for one thing before I die…”
“I prayed that I wouldn’t be left alone.”

He froze.

Then she squeezed his hand tightly and said:

“Thank you for keeping me here with you…”
“Thank you for not sending me away.”

He walked outside afterward and completely collapsed in tears.

Because in that moment he realized something heartbreaking:

In a world where many elderly people are forgotten, simple love has become something rare.

Every evening, he sat beside her and read old stories out loud.
Sometimes she remembered parts of her past.
Sometimes she forgot everything again minutes later.

But one thing never changed.

Whenever he held her hand, she smiled.

One day a nurse quietly asked him:
“Why are you doing all of this? You’re still young…”

He stayed silent for a moment before answering:

“When I was маленький, she never left me alone… so how could I leave her now?”

The nurse turned away, wiping tears from her eyes.

Because everyone in that room understood the painful truth:

Elderly people are not a burden.
They are the ones who once carried us through life when we were helpless ourselves.

And one day, every one of us will grow old too…
Waiting for a visit.
Waiting for footsteps in the hallway.
Waiting for someone who will simply sit beside us and say:

“You are not alone.”

Take care of the people who once took care of you…
Before one day, it becomes too late.
