For the first few hours, everything seemed perfect. The little boy explored his new room, looked at his toys with amazement, and cautiously smiled from time to time. I couldn’t stop thinking about how our lives were finally becoming complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That evening, my husband volunteered to give him a bath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
«I’ll handle this,» he said with a smile. «Maybe it’ll help us bond.»<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I stayed in the kitchen preparing dinner while they went upstairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then suddenly, I heard a loud shout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
«What is this?!»<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A moment later, my husband rushed out of the bathroom, his face completely pale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
«We can’t do this,» he said. «We need to take him back!»<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Terrified, I ran into the bathroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The little boy was standing beside the bathtub, clutching a towel tightly against his chest. His eyes were filled with fear, as though he expected something terrible to happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then I saw what had shocked my husband.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The child’s small body was covered with scars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There were marks on his arms, shoulders, back, and legs. Some were old and faded, while others were more noticeable. It was heartbreaking to imagine the suffering he had endured at such a young age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I knelt beside him and gently asked where the scars had come from.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The boy lowered his eyes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

«I was a bad boy. They punished me.»<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tears filled my eyes. My husband stood frozen beside me, unable to speak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Later that night, after putting him to bed, we sat together in silence. We watched him sleeping restlessly, waking up frightened every few minutes, as if he expected someone to hurt him again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That was when my husband finally spoke.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
«I don’t want to return him,» he said softly. «I was just shocked. No child should ever have to go through something like this.»<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At that moment, we made a promise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We would never abandon him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
No matter how difficult the journey ahead might be, we would help him heal. We would show him that love doesn’t hurt, that families don’t abandon each other, and that he was worthy of kindness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The years that followed were not easy. There were tears, fears, therapy sessions, and many difficult moments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
